EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION SKILLS

This programme will provide participants with the opportunity to develop skills that will make them more effective in the messages they give to and receive from other people. This includes the ability to communicate assertively, understanding non-verbal communication and body language, active listening, communicating effectively with various people, especially difficult and demanding ones.

THE PSYCHOLOGY OF BODY LANGUAGE

Studies in social psychology indicate that proficiency, accuracy, and efficiency in communication and relational skills depend on non-verbal communication. Body language, particularly, can be regarded as the external manifestation of our emotional state. Every gesture and body movement can shed valuable insight into how a person is really feeling and thinking. Because body language is so unconsciously driven we tend to be largely unaware of it.

This programme focuses on mastering the signals we give and read through our own and other people’s body language. This programme can also include a video component where participants are filmed during specific interactions so that they can analyse their own body language and its effectiveness.

UNDERSTANDING AND WORKING WITH GROUP DYNAMICS

People in leadership positions often have to work with various groups as part of their role. This programme offers participants an in-depth understanding of group processes and dynamics and offers practical tips on how to develop high functioning groups. This programme is also useful for trainers who besides delivering the content of their topic want to create a positive learning climate and learn how to manage obstacles in the relationships between group members that may hinder the learning process.

THE SKILLS OF ACTIVE LISTENING AND GIVING AND RECEIVING EFFECTIVE FEEDBACK

This course focuses on two core skills for leaders, managers, supervisors and people who assume a leadership role in their work. The skills of listening effectively and giving constructive feedback are basic and essential in working with people and yet they are often undervalued or practised ineffectively.

This programme will enable participants to understand and practice these skills while applying them to their work context. The programme also focuses on the ability to receive feedback positively and use it to one’s advantage.

THE POWER OF ASSERTIVENESS

This programme exposes participants to powerful tools to help them deal with interactions at all levels in the organisation. It explores the differences between aggression, non-assertion, and assertion, and their effects on communication. Participants will discover techniques on how to be an assertive communicator, acquire ways to handle feedback, exercise greater influence on others and interact more effectively with people in the organisation.  They will learn to address business etiquette when professionalism and assertiveness are required. Participants will also be equipped with more sophisticated skills to use in dealing with manipulative behaviours where assertiveness alone is not sufficient, thus gaining confidence, decisiveness and respect.

MANAGING CONFLICT & DISAGREEMENT

Workplace conflict is an inevitable reality but if managed well can lead to an enriched working environment.  This programme looks at various conflict-management styles and while participants can identify their personal style, they will have the opportunity of working with other styles they may not have tried before. The focus is on situational conflict management, recognizing that one cannot adopt one style for all situations but rather, be able to use a variety of approaches choosing the best for every situation.

Participants will recognise the causes of interpersonal conflict and become aware of their emotional triggers to prevent explosive situations. They will learn new conflict management strategies that will improve their communication performance, and ultimately increase the success of their business initiatives.

MANAGING ANGER AND OTHER CHALLENGING BEHAVIOURS IN THE WORKPLACE

Anger has long since been a characteristic of our culture and has become an expected response to stressful or threatening situations. This can lead to serious problems in the workplace as employees with anger can destroy team spirit and morale, generate anxiety among co-workers, engage in sabotage and other undesirable behaviours, or become so enraged that they spark aggressive emotional outbursts.

This programme will help participants understand, manage and prevent workplace hostility. Important issues covered are; reading early warning signs, responding appropriately, calming angry employees, avoiding repercussions, and creating organisational climates that encourage a harmonious environment for employees.
